⚙️ New Foundations: Moving to Leaner, Faster Web Hosting
The dreary weather outside was perfect for a day inside tackling some serious digital work!
I successfully migrated ballpc.com and launched the new journal.ballpc.com site on a Virtual Server at Digital Ocean.
Tired of the Bloat: I’ve been intentionally moving toward simpler HTML & CSS websites lately, as I’ve grown weary of the bloat associated with modern WordPress. That said, for this journal, I found the perfect middle ground:
-
CMS: ClassicPress (A lighter fork of WordPress, pre-bloat/Block editor era)
-
Web Server: OpenLiteSpeed (Far more lightweight than Apache2)
It’s been fun designing a new theme and learning about OpenLiteSpeed—it’s fast enough to run on a much smaller Digital Ocean Droplet. If this setup proves stable, I plan to move all my sites over, which could lead to some significant monthly savings! Speed and cost efficiency are the new goals.
